OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) is a flat panel diffused with light emitting source. An OLED uses the property of organic materials which emits light or illuminate when voltage is applied to it. Red, Green and Blue the basic colours can be generated using this property by appropriately using organic materials. It thus allows realization of full colours with desired colour purity. An OLED light source is made by putting organic thin films between two conductors which will emit a light on application of electrical voltage between the two conductors. The two conductors Anode and Cathode are holding organic material between them when applied with Voltage across it makes the electrons move and the current begins to flow. The electrons from cathode and holes from anode move toward the organic materials in the emitting Layer.

When these Electrons and Holes united at the Emitting Layer of organic materials generate excitation in the organic material. When these excited particle drops to low excitation levels of energy produce light. Different colors can be generated using this principal using different type of organic materials. This combination of electrodes and light emitting organic material then enclosed in a layer of substrate. Since, the OLED emit light hence it does not require backlight unlike LCD. This leads to development of very thin and low power consuming efficient light source when compared with other conventional light sources and devices.

Transparent OLEDs as the name suggest are using only transparent elements which constitute or fabricate the OLEDs that is transparent OLEDs will have transparent substrate, cathode and anode. When a transparent OLED is not in use that is when it is turned off, it became transparent up to 70- 85 percent as their substrate. A transparent OLED, when put to in it allows light to emit in both directions as substrate holding it is transparent at both end.

Active as well as passive-matrix (AMOLED or PM OLED) technique are being used for Transparent OLED displays. These techniques differed based on the method of deriving the light from the organic material. These OLEDs can be flexible like other OLED light source and hence generate possibility of its usage for many new application and place such as architectural windows for providing lighting when daylight is not sufficient, for automotive windshields for applications such as navigation and warning systems. Transparent OLEDs may find its place in development of helmet-mounted or heads-up systems for virtual reality, heads – up systems for industrial and medical applications.

In near future we can watch a television panel, an art panel, vehicular advertisement turning into a see-through windows or art-panel or windscreens. These transparent OLEDs light source can be effectively used in place of transparent objects and transparent casings.
